Went to TJ'S yesterday night time(730-8pm) This is my second time there. They told me that their computer system was down. I did noticed that the waiters were running loose, they seemed to be annoyed by it(might just be me). I got the pick two n two. Ribs n brisket, mac n cheese n green beans. Smoked wings for an app. Smoked wings was awesome as I remember like the first time. The ribs I had was kinda dry(might have to try earlier in the day) but was still ok. The brisket is was amazingly tender! Mac n cheese, ehh didn't look like the pictures and was bland(wasn't cheesy). The Green beans had flavor but it was dry. The service yesterday was average. I saw the owner came in right before I was leaving, probably called into get the system back up. The first time I went there was maybe a month ago. It was around 1pm maybe 2. I got the pulled pork sandwich(crispy outside tender on the inside)and seasoned fries. Yum!! Also had the smoked wings=awesome! Service was excellent that day. The owner came around to check out how we were doing, I thought that was pretty cool. Soo.... between the two times I've been there I'll give it 3.5 stars. All in all I'll stick to going earlier in the day.

Buffalo chicken dip was incredibly good and came with very fresh, warm pita chips. The server was very friendly and the owner obviously greatly cares about this restaurant and providing great food at all times. Every restaurant has room for improvement and I've posted many reviews on yelp but this owner personally emailed me for feedback on the food quality to see if there was anything they could do better. Definitely a first! Highly respected and recommended local place to eat!

Good food and great atmosphere. Try the pulled pork salad. I know it sounds crazy but it's amazing!

Not the most chic bar/restaurant I've been to, but food and service have been consistent both times I've attended. Had the pulled pork sandwich, with sweet potato fries. Everything was delicious. Bun held up to the pulled pork well, soft but not soggy. They served with multiple BBQ sauces, both tasted great, one was more sweet and one was more spicy. Sweet potato fries were crispy and thick. Service was attentive but not overbearing, great price too. Will be back.

This place needs to get discovered. It's not mentioned on the food scene at all, but serves really good food - especially the smoked chicken wings and the onion rings. BBQ in all forms is delicious - pulled pork, ribs, brisket - although I prefer the burger, which was perfectly cooked to medium rare order. Deserves a look-see if in the Goose Creek area.

Yelp does it again! I found this place based on the good reviews and probably would not have tried it based on what we saw from the outside. Even the first few minutes inside I was a little worried I had made a mistake. Well, I'm here to tell you I made some points with the wife by choosing this place for lunch! We had 4 adults and 2 young kids looking for lunch. Ashley was our waitress and from the beginning she was excellent! She really took great care in making sure we had everything. She brought the 4 year old's food out first which was a great touch, as she eats slow. We all tried one of her chicken bites and couldn't believe how good they were. The fries we're excellent too. Heck I didn't try one thing that was not good, and I tried something on everyone's plate. I had the ribs, they were fantastic. My wife is still raving about how good it was. We will definitely be back!

If you REALLY don't like sports, this probably isn't the place for you. We don't, which is part of the reason why we don't go often. There are large TVs visible from everywhere that are always tuned to sports. It's great if you like that thing! Recliners and couches with small tables for comfy viewing in some areas. Just not our thing. Now. The food?!? The food is AMAZING! Wings are smoked for flavor, then flash fried when you order and served with sauce (not necessary) on the side. Why is sauce not necessary? Because they're just that good without it. Stuffed Burgers are huge and cooked to order. Extra juicy with plenty of toppings. Could maybe be a little more 'stuffed' but that may depend on the type you get. Barbecue was tasty as it was served, but sauces on the table gave a decent range of sweet, sour and spicy. Fries were hand cut and delicious! I added more salt to mine, but I prefer more than most. Baked beans had barbecue in them and were like I'd make at home. Baked beans, slaw and potato salad are definitely things I'm picky about! No word yet on the other two, but the beans were spot on. Only complaint/criticism with the food is chips are only basic side item, everything else is an up charge. Since we didn't have chips, I'm not sure what they are. But because they weren't described as anything other than 'chips' I envisioned a bag of Lay's. Chips might be ok with some sandwiches, but fries should come standard with a burger.

If you are in the Goose Creek area and you are looking for a place where you can sit, get comfortable and have some BBQ, Burgers or a beer then TJ's is the place for you. TJ's is a local place that you will probably only find if you are with a local. The service is friendly, though it can take a little bit to get seated. I give this criticism knowing full well that I am a Californian and I move a little faster then southern living. This place is spacious and when I went here with a friend the 2 of us were seated at a booth that I felt could of held 6-8 of us. I am a fan of this place, do not let the rating fool you. A-Ok means I will go back to this place again and have no substantial problems with this place. As a burger connoisseur this place is no Hodad's(San Diego reference) but I do enjoy their burgers when I want a step up from fast food. I would argue that Smashburger is better burgers, but TJ's has the atmosphere where you would have no problem bringing a date here(if they get down on bbq or burgers). I am not going to spend much time of the food because it wasn't stellar and it wasn't bad. I enjoyed it for the taste more then just to sustain my life. I don't review all the mid tier places I go to because they aren't worth mentioning typically. I came from a big city where A-Ok places fold faster then superman on laundry day because there's a million other choices. That being said, there are infinitely less options in South Carolina, and less open late and less open outside of Charleston proper. When I look at the people who rated this place 5 or 4 stars I noticed low numbers of reviews. From 1 foodie to another foodie, I can say I would not drive across the city or the county for this place. I would however have no problem recommending this place when you want something that has a good taste and does not involve driving more then 15 minutes. I am coming back here for sure because I fall in that range. If you are looking for something that is less of a chain(smokeybones) and more of a family environment and you live in the area then you'll find yourself at TJ's

On February 6, 2015 at approximately 2021 hours Tom H. and I, Dante G., responded to TJ's BBQ and Burgers located at 214 Saint James Avenue, which is located in the city of Goose Creek. Upon arrival we were seated along the interior B-side of the building after entering through the door on the A-side of the building (Door 2). We were greeted promptly and pleasantly. We were seated and advised Ashley Mc would soon be there to assist us. Ashley quickly determined our drink order. I went with a Wild Blue, a lager with a strong blueberry taste. Tom H., after being a pretentious beer snob, settled on a Rampant something IPA. He can't even remember it was so memorable. Food orders were next. Tom H. went with the Southwest Burger. He requested it be cooked as little as possible. He likes his burgers like he likes his women; warm, pink, and juicy. I went with a build your own burger. Having watched several episodes of Supernatural, I built a bacon cheeseburger, medium well, with pickles and Pepperjack cheese. See attached photograph. Both meals arrived with lightening speed and were delicious. Tom H. opted for sweet potato fries where I went with the hand cut french fries. Mine allegedly had spice to them where Tom H.'s were thicker cut. Ultimately, size did not matter because we were both pleased with our choice in french fries. A short time later, confidential source KY requested a rendezvous. I know that is a strange word to use, but I like the way it rolls off the tongue. Rendezvous. CS KY inquired as to the closing time of the kitchen. Ashley informed us the kitchen closes at about 2200 hours. The timing was perfect. Another BYO burger was obtained. CS KY seemed to enjoy her burger immensely. Even if it look like a condiment smorgasbord. If it were not for voice to text, there is no way I could spell smorgasbord. A second round of drinks brought us a Ranger IPA and a Landshark. Ashley was gracious enough to request the caps to both of the bottled beers for me. I have a board in my kitchen showing several of the bottled beers that I have consumed. See attached photograph. We move to the bar briefly to finish our drinks. I enjoyed the foot rest. End of Report.

Food was great! My fiancé both had the 1/2 rack of ribs. Best ribs I had in charleston so far. Service was great. We had two kids in our party of 6, waiter went out of her way to bring kids toys and changed channel to entertain the two kids. Will definitely be back .

  • Melissa F.

Awesome burgers, great service. Will be back to eat again and for a game. Love that they have couches and 10 tv's that can be easily seen from any seat. Great selection of craft beers on draught and food was cooked to perfection. Nice change of pace to be able to get a burger medium rare. Awesome place. Ready to try the bbq.

I would give them a 4.5. I went for restaurant week tonight. The deal was two could get an appetizer, two entrees and a dessert for 20 dollars. We started with the buffalo chicken dip and it was phenomenal. Very delicious. Then came the entrees. I got the pulled pork sandwich and my boyfriend got the fried green tomato Blt. Both were very good. The portions were large so we were too full to eat our dessert, which was turtle cheesecake. We took that home with us. The food was great and the deal was great. Overall, awesome experience!

Second trip here, again amazing service! Had the manager come to our table on both trips, just to check on us. Food is awesome, buffalo chicken dip.......wow! Pulled pork......wow! Brisket.....wow! Will have a burger next time. Draft beer selection is large and a lot of local beer. Will return many times!

  • Ashley H.

Great place for a quick bite. They offer kids eat free nights, BOGO burger nights etc the chili is great as are the sweet potato fries. I have toddlers who are not always the best behaved and no one there has ever made us feel out of place or unwelcome. Great family place and a great value for great food.

Tried this place after searching for great burgers on yelp. Great find! When we first arrived, they let us know that their systems were down so orders might be slower. We never noticed a delay in service. Great beer selection. I ordered the southern burger - added some of their mustard based sauce they have at the table - DELICIOUS! Husband got the breakfast burger, egg on it was perfectly cooked. We both had their seasoned fries. I liked that they were hand cut but a little too much salt for my taste. They would of been awesome naked. Our waitress was great. The owner personally came to out table to apologize for the delay with the computers - not that we noticed one. He told us about their frequent diner program (which we'll definitely take part in once their systems work). And we will totally be back.

But being me I may try it again in the future

First time in and we really liked it. Burger was very good and cooked just the way it was ordered...medium. Pulled pork was very moist and tasty. Three sauces to pick from which all had a good flavor. Mac & cheese and onion rings were very good too. Lived the beer selection - plenty to choose from on draught and bottles. $1.00 off during happy hour. Loved it - we will be back.

    (4)
  • Angela J.

All of us got burgers and really enjoyed them. I got the southern- really good! The onion rings were awesome, not traditional. They were crunchy and spicy. Got a craft beer to go along with, nice selection! Only thing none of us cared for was the Mac n cheese. The kids got it and it was way too smoky tasting for adults, definitely not kid friendly. They liked my burger though!!

    (4)
  • Luis D.

The prices are high for the quarry of food and I Ordered the bacon stuffed burger and when I got to the filling of the burger it was filled with chunks of fat. It ruined my whole meal. The service was okay but wouldn't take my children their. Wouldn't go back but that's my preference.

    (1)
  • Jeff T.

Onion rings were great! The smoked wings were also really good. They have a great selection of craft beers on tap! Waitstaff were all very friendly and attentive. If I'm ever in the area again I would try and stop in. Was happy to find the Red Sox game on!

I came here on Sunday after church with my husband, toddler and baby. I love that they have chalkboards running along the booths! My toddler was entertained the entire time we were there! Also, the waitress was nice enough to turn on cartoons for him as well! They have couches in the middle of the dining area and he loved going to sit on the couch to watch cartoons! The food was great! I got the fried green tomato BLT which had some awesome pimento cheese on it! My only complaint is that I would have wanted more fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese on it because it was just so good. My husband got the fried flounder sandwich and the smoked Mac and cheese. He loved it. The sandwiches are very reasonably priced but they don't come with a side, you have to get that separate. We didn't really mind though because the prices were good (like $6 for a sandwich, 1.50-$2 for a side). Our server was very nice and helpful and put our order in on her iPad which went straight to the kitchen! Love that! Especially when you have an impatient toddler! She also told us how they have BOGO burgers and sandwiches on Mondays and kids eat free Thursdays! We will definitely be back!

Seriously good authentic BBQ. The ribs are amazing and show true craftsmanship. The onion rings are authentic and some of the best I've ever had. Good experience all around but the ribs alone made it worth the trip.
